Vegas Valentine’s Day Specials: Hotel Stays, Shows, Gambling, Restaurants, And More
February 5, 2009 - 5:45 pm
This year’s Valentine’s Day highlights: A gay “bare as you dare” party. A “Cupid is Stupid” party. You can rent the entire Eiffel Tower Experience thing FOR A PRIVATE HOUR FOR YOU AND YOUR SWEETIE for an hour for — $2,500! (It’s way cheaper if you go up there with everyone else).
Plus: hotel stays, spa and restaurant specials, and even gambling specials.
You better start planning your Valentine’s Day happs. You know how significant others can be, if you neglect them. But I will say this to women: Valentine’s Day is also for men. If you’re sitting on your butt, and then he does something grand and sweeping for you, and you don’t do the same: expect a breakup. I’m just sayin’.
This isn’t a comprehensive list below. It’s a large sampling of things I know about so far, meant to get you started on your search. Make sure you check out the Friday, Feb. 13, Las Vegas Review-Journal. I don’t want to be presumptuous, but I imagine there’ll be some Valentine’s specials in there.
FUNNIEST IDEA:
[] You get a free drink at a “Cupid is Stupid” party at Santa Fe’s 4949 Lounge — if you take a picture of an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend for the “burn box.” You can also get your picture taken with an “Angry Cupid.”
CHEAP STAY:
[] At Boulder Station, $150 gets you a three-night hotel stay (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), plus a $50 dining credit for any restaurant, and two tickets to see Kansas play the Railhead Friday night.
MOST INSANE HIGH TICKET
[] For $2,500, you can rent Paris’ Eiffel Tower Experience deal for your own private hour, with champagne, chocolate strawberries and serenading musicians. Wow. Half of the observation deck for an hour costs a mere $1,250.
But there’s also the flip pricing at Paris. Another Eiffel Tower Valentine’s Day package Friday, Saturday and Sunday — for $60 (half the usual retail), you get two tickets to go up the Eiffel Tower Experience, two glasses of Georges Duboeuf Saint-Amour wine, a five-by-seven souvenir photo, and two tickets to a wine tasting on Saturday.
SHOWS:
[] If you’re booking to see a show, call and ask for a special. For $99, you could go to the Flamingo and get two VIP tickets to see comedian George Wallace plus two dinners at the Paradise Garden Buffet.
SPAS:
[] If you call around to spas, ask for specials. For instance, the Rio is offering a couples package including a 50-minute massage and a scrub or deep cleansing facial. That’s $320. Pretty pricey. But the point is, spas are offering discounts.
[] At Green Valley Ranch, the Spa is offering for $190: a “sugar cookie massage and scrub” for 80 minutes for $190 — or an 80-minute “chocolate mint wrap” (body exfoliation and mask, etc.); or a $300 50-minute massage plus a 50-minute champagne facial. Nevadans get a 20 percent discount.
[] Red Rock’s Spa special is a “Triple Chocolate Trouble” for 110 minutes at $275 (body scrub, dip wrap and massage).
GAY:
[] Gay haven Krave nightclub does a fetish-and-fantasy ball on Valentine’s Day, raising money for HIV-AIDS charity Golden Rainbow, with its annual “Naked Hearts” night. It’s called “bare as you dare.” Dancers from Strip productions — from “American Storm” to “Chippendales,” “Jubilee!” “Le Reve” and Studio 54,” plus others — will perform sensual interpretations of fetishes, while go-go boys swing their things. That’s $20 for locals and $40 for tourists.
PACKAGES:
[] At Aliante, you can get a Richard Marx Valentine’s Day package: $129 plus tax gets you a night’s stay, two Marx concert tickets, and a $25 Station Casino gift card.
RESTAURANTS
[] Social House at Treasure Island is doing a prix fixe menu for $65 per person. That comes with a sake toast and a four-course meal: foie gras miso cappuccino or black truffle chawan mushi; shrimp seasoned with soy salt, citrus, togarashi oil and cilantro, or rock shrimp over a bed of inaniwa udon noodles with lobster coral butter and brussel sprouts; lamb chop with tomato curried fingerling potatoes, or cod with lemons and salsify; and a dessert of milk chocolate black tea panna cotta with coconut tapioca and rose water meringue. I don’t understand any of those food words I just typed. If you get the prix fixe, you get free entry into Treasure Island’s Christian Audigier The Nightclub.
[] Texas Station’s Oyster Bar’s Valentine’s Day special is $28 per person, and includes a whole Maine lobster, clams, red potatoes, corn on the cop and a glass of premium wine or beer. Texas Café’s deal is $14 for soup or salad; filet mignon; shrimp brochettes, steamed white rice and broccoli.
[] Santa Fe Station’s Cabo Mexican does a special of a 12-ounce rib eye with chipotle cream sauce, crab cake and dessert for $20 for one or $38 for two.
[] Jerry’s Nugget’s Uncle Angelo’s Pizza Joint is making Valentine Heart Pizzas, 16 inches, for $13. The hotel’s Jerry’s Famous Coffee Shop is doing two six-ounce Canadian lobster tails for $23.89.
GAMBLING
[] There are even gambling specials on Valentine’s. From 12 a.m. to midnight on Feb. 14, Jerry’s Nugget is paying out on heart cards. If you’re at the blackjack table, and you get an ace and a heart face card, or ace and 10-value card, and all the cards are in hearts — you get a 2-1 payout for that hand only. There’s no limit to the number of payouts you can get this way.
Also at Jerry’s Nugget that day, if you play video poker on max bet (with no wild cards) and get a “hearts jackpot” on quarter or dollar machines, you get a $500 bonus on an all-hearts royal flush, or a $25 bonus on a straight flush in all hearts.
CRUISE
[] The Village and MonteLago Village Resort in Henderson is doing a post-6 p.m. Valentine’s Day cruise with champagne for $30 for singles and $50 for couples. Some boutiques are offering heart-jewelry discounts. The Floating Ice Rink has all-day passes for $15 for adults and $12 for kids 12 and younger, noon to 9 p.m.
SATURDAY NIGHT CLUB SILLINESS
[] From “The Hills,” Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, host at Pure at Caesar as a Valentine’s couple.
[] Models put on a Valentine’s fashion show for the La Perla lingerie line at LAX at Luxor.
[] Hugh Hefner (ex?) “girlfriend” Bridget Marquardt hosts at Studio 54. It’s called a “Sexy Valentine’s Day Soiree.” I don’t know why.
PRE-VALENTINE’S
[] Friday, Feb. 13: Pure at Caesars hosts a Bebe Valentine’s Party and Fashion show.
