Volunteer search and rescue team wins equipment in Facebook contest

Red Rock Search and Rescue won Tuesday a free AmbuBus kit, used to transport multiple patients at one time, through a Facebook contest by the manufacturer.

“Clark County really needs something like this in the event of a major catastrophe. We wanted it for the city and that’s what happened,” Red Rock Search and Rescue founder Dave Cummings said.

The AmbuBus package, created by First Line Technology, retrofits a truck or bus into a mobile ambulance for up to 18 patients for mass medical evaluations, or mass casualties.

Red Rock Search and Rescue garnered 3,001 Facebook votes in the contest, only 289 votes behind the winners, Galveston County Office of Emergency Management.

“We were in second place, but we were so close and they were so moved …,” Cummings said. “It’s a very valuable tool and we intend on sharing this with every agency in town.”

The nonprofit, volunteer search and rescue team still needs a bus to house the kit, which can also be used on the ground as a triage site.
