Where to spend your welfare check: Vegas, of course

This had to be embarrassing for the state of California. The Los Angeles Times checked to see where state-issued welfare cards were redeemed and found the No. 1 place to spend California welfare money was ... drum roll, please ... Las Vegas.

How about that. My hometown is No. 1 again.

Out of the $69 million of California welfare money drawn out of state, Las Vegas topped the list by a long shot with $11.8 million spent at casinos or taken from ATMs.

Other popular destinations for the poor in California: Hawaii, Miami and Guam.

Oh, and by the way, where exactly in Las Vegas do California welfare recipients like to access their state-issued welfare card? No. 1 was the Tropicana and No. 2 was The Venetian and Grand Canal Shoppes.

Grand Canal Shoppes? That's quite a safety net California has created for its residents. Do you think a little -- just a little -- reform is needed?
