Woman injured in North Las Vegas car fire

A woman is in critical condition with severe burns after her car caught fire near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Tuesday afternoon.

Several people reported seeing a car with flames coming out of the bottom while moving. North Las Vegas firefighters found the car about 12:30 p.m. near Interstate-15 and Speedway Boulevard where they found the burning car. Crews extinguished the fire in about five minutes, officials said.

The driver, described as a female senior citizen by fire officials, escaped the car before firefighters arrived, but suffered significant burns from the flames. She was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
