Swap your gas-powered lawn mower for an eco-friendly one, check out some art, listen to music, admire classic cars and more during these weekend events:
ArtFest of Henderson
Food, art and entertainment are in store for the ArtFest of Henderson, set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday downtown near the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St. The event is free.
GLO Festival at First Friday
The Global Light Objects Festival is planned as part of First Friday festivities from 6 to 10 p.m. today in the Las Vegas Arts District. The event is free and is set to celebrate light, visual arts, music and performance, including artist invitational exhibitions, improv on the street, a streetside film screening of “10 Years of Burning Man” and the G.L.O. Motorhead Festival
Aliante Station, 7300 Aliante Parkway, is set to host the 15th annual Cars, Stars and Guitars Motorhead Festival, a two-day event. Hours are noon to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free to see hot-rods, classic cars, bikes and more. Call 259-1975.
Clean Air Festival
Swap your gas-powered mower for an electric one for $99 during a lawn mower exchange that is set to kick off the Clark County Jazz in the Park Clean Air Festival at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. Applications for the lawn mower exchange will be available from 5 to 8 p.m. Call 455-2949 or visit accessclarkcounty.com.
Lecture on rock art photography
A free program on rock art photography is planned for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Nevada State Museum, 700 Twin Lakes Drive. Rock art researcher David M. Lee is schedule to discuss techniques for photographing rock art in the field and processing digital images to produce better photographs.
The program is being offered as part of Archaeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Month and is being sponsored by the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs’ State Historic Preservation Office, the Nevada Archaeological Association and the Nevada State Museum of Las Vegas. Those wishing to attend should RSVP to site stewardship coordinator Sali Underwood at 486-5011 or sunderwood@nevadaculture.org.
