YOUR WEEKEND: Arts, ice cream and cars galore come to the valley
There’s plenty of things to do this weekend if you’re looking for family-friendly activities.
10 Annual Super Run Classic Car Show
More than a thousand classic cars, hot rods, motorcycles and new automobiles will drive onto Water Street in Henderson today, Sept.
27 and Sept. 28.
The cars on display range from Model Ts to concept cars. The show includes contests, such as slow drags, where drivers can show how slow they can go without hitting the break; the burnout competition, with drivers in stationary vehicles spinning their wheels to cause smoke; and the how loud can you go engine-revving competition.
In addition, there will be live entertainment.
The event is free to spectators. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 27 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 28.
Ice Cream Sunday
The Aliante master-planned community will host Ice Cream Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at Nature Discovery Park, 2627 Nature Park Drive.
Meadow Gold will provide free ice cream, and visitors can enjoy face painting, bounce houses, games and prizes. The Ice Cream Olympics will feature a Hula-Hoop Scoop, Pool Duel, Frozen T-Shirt contest and other games.
Summerlin Art Festival
It’s time once again for the Summerlin Art Festival, which will run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 27 and 28 at Summerlin Centre Community Park, 10588 Market Place Drive.
The festival offers two events in one — La Strada dell’Arte, which is adopted from Italian tradition, and Celebration of the Arts, an outdoor art festival featuring more than 125 regional artists and craftsmen.
La Strada dell’Arte consists of chalk artists transforming the Summerlin Centre Community Park into an outdoor gallery. Chalk and
knee pads will be available for $5 so residents can express themselves, too.
For the art festival part, expect a variety of handmade items, including paintings, glass work, pottery, jewelry, metalwork, sculpture, mixed media, wearing apparel, soaps, dolls and woodcrafts.
Live entertainment will include the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre. There will be food art displays and ice carving demonstrations, as well as children’s activities, living statues and roving entertainers. A variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase. Parking and admission are free.
