YOUR WEEKEND: Get outside for various events

There’s a number of free and inexpensive events happening this weekend to help you get off the couch and enjoy the outdoors.

Bring blankets and picnic baskets and catch ìThe Big Green,î part of North Las Vegas’ Movie Madness 2009 series. The movie will begin after 7 p.m. today. Food will be for sale at the site, Eldorado Park, 5900 Camino Eldorado. Free.

Desert Breeze Water Park, 8275 W. Spring Mountain Road, will celebrate the end of summer by giving it to the dogs. Dogs 50 pounds and lighter can take a dip in the pool from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Sept. 12, and dogs heavier than 50 pounds can swim from 10:45 a.m. to noon. $5 per dog. Pool staff also will be accepting donations of new or gently used clean dog items for local shelters.

It’s time for a trip of magic at Cactus Joe’s, 12740 Blue Diamond Road. The Magic and Mischief Fairy Festival will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 12. The Fantasy Ball will follow from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for adults only. Dress in your favorite pair of fairy wings. Festival tickets are $5 for kids and $8 for adults. Fantasy Ball tickets are $10 or $15 with entry into the festival. Visit www.magicandmischief.com.
