YOUR WEEKEND: Get your dose of culture at First Friday and Super Summer Theatre
This weekend, get your fill of arts and theater at two cultural Las Vegas traditions.
First Friday
June 6 is the day for the monthly art and culture fest, First Friday. A complete schedule can be found here.
Although First Friday is popular with teenagers, parents with toddlers through 10-year-olds may want a place to park the kids for the night. Griffith United Methodist Preschool, 1701 E. Oakey Blvd., offers childcare from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. during First F
riday.
Staff will entertain kids with movies, games, crafts and music. And, if your munchkins are famished, dinner is included.
The price at the door is $30 ($25 if you book in advance), the second child is $15 and the third is $10. Call 382-7836 for more information.
Super Summer Theatre
One of the annual summertime events in Las Vegas is Super Summer Theatre. This month’s musical offering is “Beauty and the Beast,” based on the Disney adaptation of the classic fairytale. More information on the play can be found in this View article.
Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, located just outside Las Vegas off Route 160 through Blue Diamond, near Red Rock National Recreation Area, holds a grassy outdoor venue that is perfect for blankets and picnic dinners. Standard patio chairs and blankets are welcome; low sandchairs, highback chairs, reclining loungers and pets are not. Bring a sweater, as temperatures are normally 10-15 degrees cooler than Las Vegas.
The remaining performances are June 5-7, 11-14 and 18-21.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door (if available). Tickets can be purchased in person at Prestige Travel, located in Smith’s Shopping Center, at Rampart and Lake Mead, at the UNLV Ham Hall Box Office, online at UNLV Tickets, or by calling 895-2787.
