YOUR WEEKEND: The Gamble-Aires to perform Christmas show at Summerlin Library theater
December 19, 2008 - 8:16 am
The oldest barbershop vocal group in Las Vegas, The Gamble-Aires, will present a holiday show, “The Secret of Christmas,” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Summerlin Community Library and Performing Arts Center.
The show will feature a sing-along of Christmas carols and two humorous vignettes: one depicting a North Pole search for more worker elves, the other a talk show spoof with an interview of Sidney Frost, Jack’s brother.
A host of local elementary school students will help the Gamble-Aires sing carols.
“This family oriented show will offer zany antics and comedic dialogue with our usual lively, original lyrics,” Gamble-Aires President Bill Lusk said. “If you’ve never attended one of our popular shows, you’re in for a real treat.
Founded in 1960 in the east Las Vegas neighborhood of Whitney, The Gamble-Aires now feature two barbershop quartets, known as Broadcast and Older ‘n’ Dirt. The full group includes singers ranging in age from teenagers to some older than 80.
Tickets cost $8 for all ages and can be purchased at the door on the day of the show, or in advance from any member of the Gamble-Aires.
The Summerlin Library is located at 1771 Inner Circle Drive.
