YOUR WEEKEND: Year of the Tiger to come in with a roar at Chinatown Plaza

The 16th annual Chinese New Year Celebration and Asian Food Festival will help mark the Year of the Tiger from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Las Vegas Chinatown Plaza, 4255 Spring Mountain Road. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12. Children ages 5 and younger are free.

Parking is available in the shopping center or across the street in the Spring Mountain Plaza. About 6,000 visitors are expected to attend the event, co-sponsored by the Chinese American Chamber of Commerce and Chinatown Plaza.

The celebration will include music, dancing and food, including Chinese, Mandarin, Filipino, Thai, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine. Traditional Chinese lion dance and a parade with a 150-foot dragon are part of the festivities, as well as demonstrations of kung fu and other martial arts, Tahitian dance, Chinese acrobats, Philippine bamboo stick dancers, Chinese folk dancers, Japanese taiko drummers, Japanese and Korean dancers and Hawaiian musicians performing traditional island music. Entertainment is planned for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
