Laughlin was behind the development of the southern Nevada river town about 100 miles south of Las Vegas. In 2016, a story by the Las Vegas Review-Journal noted that at 85 years old, he continued to work 14-hour days at Don Laughlin’s riverside resort, the casino he opened in 1966 and that started it all. laughlin died on Sunday at 92 years old.
