ANCHOR/REPORTER RAY LEAVING CHANNEL 13
October 3, 2007 - 2:47 pm
Cathy Ray, a multiple Emmy-award winning anchor and reporter at KTNV-TV, Channel 13, announced Wednesday that she is leaving the station for medical reasons.
Ray, who has been at the ABC affiliate since 1994, has been on extended medical leave due to her battle with Crohn’s Disease. She made her departure official during an emotional sign-off on the 6 p.m. newscast with evening anchors Steve Wolford and Tricia Kean.
Ray said her doctors have advised her to take some time off and she added she probably should have left three years ago when the health issues arose.
She dabbed away tears several times, including when Wolford surprised her with a going-away gift from Mayor Oscar Goodman: a “Cathy Ray Day” proclamation.
She started her career in broadcast journalism at WNDU in South Bend, Ind., after gaining a degree in nursing with an MS on oncology. She also worked in Providence, R.I., and Boston before moving to Las Vegas.
