Efforts are underway to recall North Las Vegas’ first female mayor. A group of residents launched a campaign in late August to rescind Shari Buck’s mayoral title, citing the city’s dire financial status as its main motivator.

Three dozen people duck into the shade as they line up to buy beef out of a van in some hard-to-find Spring Valley parking lot. The scene seems peculiar, but unless the black-spotted cattle count, it’s really not a cover for some black market dealing. As if buying meat out of the back of an unmarked van isn’t odd enough, patrons can buy a whole cow for $2,200 from the Utah farmers.

What I did on my summer vacation

There are a couple of pleasures that I enjoy in my life. Family and friends are, of course, No. 1. But there’s a certain mystique for me of old towns and history, fast cars and golf. Fast cars beckon to my youth. Golf is thankfully covered with these columns. Old towns and their stories intrigue me.
