The valley is in the middle of an extended August heat wave which has broken a few records. The region is under an excessive heat warning through Wednesday.
It was the fourth longest spell on record, according to the National Weather Service. Less than a hundredth of an inch was recorded at McCarran International Airport, where the weather service officially measures the valley’s precipitation.
The National Weather Service said Sunday the high temperature was 113 degrees, falling short of the July 12 record of 114, set in 2003.
