More than 300 people were killed on the state’s highways, 59 of whom died in Southern Nevada, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Members of the Highway Patrol’s fatal crash team lit 59 luminarias to honor those who died. Speakers read the names of the deceased as troopers lit them. Among those named was Jaelan Fajardo, a 16-year-old high school student killed by a drunken driver. His mother spoke and called for stricter DUI laws.
