The Clark County School District said 101 employees and 22 students tested positive for COVID-19 from March through Aug. 7.

Liberty senior Journie Augmon has tremendous basketball instincts — like her father, Stacey, who starred at UNLV from 1987-91 and played 15 years in the NBA. The younger Augmon didn’t grow up playing basketball, though, and was a cheerleader for several years. Her dad never pressured her until playing basketball, and she decided to start on her own in seventh grade. Augmon started for the Patriots last year and helped them reach the Class 4A state championship game. She’s one of the area’s top players this year, and averages an area-best 12.3 rebounds to go with 9.5 points and 2.3 steals.
Charter schools have grown substantially in the last two decades. State-sponsored charters had just 506 students in 2005-06. Today, they have more than 43,000. The schools also have thousands of students on their waiting lists, providing competition for the Clark County School District.

Billy Stojack, 71, was a mainstay at the Las Vegas Veterans Day Parade. The retired firefighter and late Navy SEAL died in 2017, two days before Veterans Day. This year, his adult children established the Billy Stojack Memorial Fund in his honor. Each year, they will honor a veteran in their father’s memory.
Arbor View senior running back Kyle Graham grew up playing offensive line, and earned the nickname “Bubba” in wake of a chunky physique. He hit a growth spurt in middle school and transitioned to running back, the position he’s played the last several years. Graham transferred from Shadow Ridge to Arbor View, and enrolled in the school’s bio-medical program. He has a 4.0 GPA and wants to work in sports medicine. He made his varsity football debut last season, rushing for 634 yards in a complimentary role. Graham is Arbor View’s feature back this year, and leads the area with 1,282 rushing yards in eight games.
The Lights FC has a stabilizing presence in Daigo Kobayashi. The 35-year-old midfielder completes 79.5 percent of his passes, the most on the team. He’s also scored four goals this season, tied for fourth most on the Lights. Daigo Kobayashi

Previously, Martinez worked for 4 years at Tom Shaw Performance at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando. NFL Players Union Files Grievance Over Kneeling Mandate On Tuesday, the NFL Players Association filed a grievance against the league, arguing that the kneeling policy infringes on players’ rights. NFLPA, via Twitter The new policy was mandated in May, and called for players to “ stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.” If not, they are to retreat to the locker rooms, and wait until the anthem is over. the country. Kaepernick has also filed a grievance against the NFL, suspecting he is being blacklisted and kept as a free agent due to the protests.
Cristiano Ronaldo Leaves Real Madrid for Juventus Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will sign with Italian champions Juventus. Ronaldo ends his nine-year spell with Madrid following a rift with team president Florentino Perez over a new contract. Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s all-time leading goal scorer and led the club to four Champions League titles. He’s also won four of his five Ballon d’Or awards while with the squad. Cristiano Ronaldo, “These years at Real Madrid and in this city of Real Madrid have quite possibly be the happiest years of my life.” The 33-year-old is now tasked with bringing European Cup glory to Juventus, who have been runners-up in two of the past four seasons.
Former Findlay Prep and UNLV guard Rashad Vaughn is back in Summer League with the Miami Heat. He was drafted by the Milwuakee Bucks in 2015, but was out of the NBA at the end of last season. Vaughn is working out three or four times a day in Minneapolis, and was in contact with various teams before Summer League. He had 11 and 16 points in his first two Summer League games.
A new era of Suns basketball is beginning, and Las Vegas is evidence of that. No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton has reinvigorated a dormant base with his exciting play. He has averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds on 67 percent shooting through three games. Second-year Sun Josh Jackson said the excitement has trickled into the locker room, too. The Suns have won all three games so far, and the crowd is loudest when they’re on the court. The last thing left to do in Las Vegas? Win the Summer League title.

Diamond Resorts CEO Michael Flaskey was one of about 2,850 people in attendance for an annual timeshare convention. The convention ended Thursday. Flaskey discussed the health of the industry and his company. Diamond, based in Las Vegas, has 145 destinations worldwide and 9,000 employees.
Lights FC defender Jorge Guillen-Torres is happy to be back on the field. The 23-year-old was out January 23 to April 27 with a foot injury. He has now started the Lights’ last three games. He made a very disciplined step-by-step recovery. That’s why he could step back on the field. In the first game, you cannot notice he’s been 12 weeks out. He performed very good physically.
Reports that NASCAR maybe up for sale are gaining speed. It was reported this week that investment firm Goldman Sachs has been recruited to identify possible buyers . The news came as a shock to former driver Bobby Labonte, who said it would be business as usual for NASCAR drivers. One driver, former Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, said a sale could provide a platform for change and new opportunities for race teams. Bringing a new owner in may draw that line clearer to say now there’s separation between NASCAR and racetracks, and I think it might be a possibility to open the schedule up and go to some new places.
Liberty senior Gabby Carson is one of the best high school pole vaulters in the country. She cleared 13 feet at a track and field meet last month, and the height is the seventh best, nationally. Carson didn’t start pole vaulting until her freshman year of high school, and improved by more than a foot in each of her first three years of track and field. She finished second in the pole vault at the Class 4A state meet last year, and is the front-runner to win this year’s state title. She is considering a collegiate track and field career at Oklahoma, New Mexico or Eastern Washington.
A man was sent to prison Tuesday for a punch-and-fall death outside a downtown Las Vegas lounge. 28-year-old James Beach must serve three to 10 years for voluntary manslaughter in the death of 45-year-old Luis Campos. Campos died four days after he was struck once outside the Fremont Street Club in May 2017. According to the Clark County coroner, he collapsed and likely hit his head. In 2008, Beach pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder & battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm. The charges were in connection with a brawl between two groups of men in Las Vegas.
A pair of robbery suspects led police to three parking garages around the Las Vegas Strip before they were caught early Tuesday morning.
The first robbery took place at the Treasure Island parking garage, where two suspects “battered” a 71-year-old, her adult daughter and a juvenile girl.
The suspects, one of who was armed, next demanded money and property from a pair of 18-year-olds at Fashion Show mall. The suspects were later spotted at the SLS Las Vegas parking garage. They tried to get away by ramming a patrol car with their vehicle. That effort failed and they were taken into custody.
Friends and family members of those killed on Nevada’s highways last year gathered to honor and remember their loved ones. More than 300 people were killed on the state’s highways, 59 of whom died in Southern Nevada, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Members of the Highway Patrol’s fatal crash team lit 59 luminarias to honor those who died. Speakers read the names of the deceased as troopers lit them. Among those named was Jaelan Fajardo, a 16-year-old high school student killed by a drunken driver. His mother spoke and called for stricter DUI laws.
A ‘Personality conflict’ is shaking up North Las Vegas City Hall. City Manager Qiong Liu is negotiating her resignation. It comes one day after she insisted on firing Assistant City Manager Ryann Juden amid long-simmering tensions. Mayor John Lee insisted Juden will not be fired. The dispute reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over how to fund infrastructure projects at the Apex Industrial Park. Liu said appointing Juden was “the biggest mistake that I have made over the past 4-plus years leading the executive team.”
A three-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 95 will be narrowed to a single lane for seven months starting Thursday. Crews will be building freeway bridges in northwest Las Vegas.
Both directions of the highway will be reduced to one lane between Skye Canyon Park and Paiute drives from 5 a.m. Thursday to July 12.
Crews are building a new interchange bridge at Kyle Canyon Road as part of a larger $65 million upgrade of U.S. 95 in the northwest valley.
