I have known three superintendents who have led the Clark County School District. These men have had much expertise in developing a budget, but none has introduced a more effective educational program to remove Nevada from the bottom of the national school achievement list.
In considering our next superintendent, he or she must include such a program, designed specifically for our students, as part of the application.
And why do the taxpayers have to be involved?
The U.S. Department of Transportation grant to study the alternatives to improving public transit on Charleston means we will spend $5.9 million of before Charleston ever sees an orange cone. Wow.
I’ve lived in Southern Nevada since 1996, and school zones are invisible to many drivers. It seems that the casual attitude of local officials hasn’t helped much.
The issue is that the Las Vegas casinos are no longer fun. It certainly is time for another reinvention.
