Consumers who struggled to sign up for health insurance to get another chance

Consumers who had trouble signing up for health insurance through Sunday will get another chance to enroll.

The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said Tuesday that it has opened a nationwide special-enrollment period through Feb. 22, or a week beyond the initial deadline, for people who couldn’t finish applying through the healthcare.gov marketplace because of call-center wait times or issues with income verification.

Nevada consumers can log in to their healthcare.gov account, or call 800-318-2596, to finish the process.

To qualify, consumers must have tried to sign up by Sunday, but had trouble because of longer-than-normal wait times through the call center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Consumers who found that income-verification sources were down also are eligible.

The special-enrollment period applies only to consumers who were enrolling through the exchange for the first time.
