Derrick Rose to have knee surgery
Hours after participating in a light practice Tuesday, the Chicago Bulls announced that point guard Derrick Rose will have surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his right knee.
The Bulls said Rose experienced right knee pain after a workout in which he did very little, and that an exam and subsequent MRI confirmed the injury. He will have a second surgery on his right knee and the Bulls will announce a timetable for his return following the procedure.
In Monday’s 87-71 win over the Milwaukee Bucks, Rose shot 1-of-13 from the field but even after equaling the worst shooting game of his seven-year career, he was not concerned about a possible injury.
“That’s the most days I took off in two years,” Rose said. “I’m not worried about missing shots. I’ve shot worse before, so it’s nothing big.”
The injury is the latest one for Rose, who played 10 games last season and missed all of 2012-13 with a torn ACL in his left knee that he initially sustained during Chicago’s first-round series with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2012.
Rose returned in the first month of last season, but injured his right knee on Nov. 22, 2013, in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Rose had surgery on his torn meniscus three days later and missed the remainder of the season as the Bulls were eliminated in the first round by the Washington Wizards.
Rose is averaging 18.4 points per game while shooting 40.7 percent in 46 games this season. He has missed 11 games with knee, hip and ankle injuries.
