In a world where goats are a mainstay of YouTube videos, the subjects of simulation games and becoming the next “it” animal of social media, it’s no surprise Washington Post would make a goat tracking map.

To start, in 2012, there were 2,621,514 goats in the United States, according to the USDA Agricultural Census. More than 21,000 of them are in Nevada.

230 goats reside in and around the City of Sin, and with a population of 2.7 million, that’s about 1 goat per 8,695 people.

We know, that’s an important figure. But wait, it gets better.

Churchill County is home to the most goats in Nevada, 13,574 to be exact. With a population of 24,000, if evenly dispersed, every other person could have one goat. Cool, right?

Most goats in the United States are used for meat, and some are used for milk to make cheeses. If you’re into buying local, try giving Churchill County a shot.

Another important figure to keep in mind: In 20 Texas counties, goats outnumber people. In Edwards County, Texas, that ratio is 22-1.

That’s a lot of goats.
