Player hit by pitch in ribs, catches ball and tosses it back — VIDEO

One of baseball’s unwritten rules is that when a player is hit by a pitch, he never rubs the mark.

Arizona State outfielder Johnny Sewald took the machismo to another level in a game vs. Washington State on Saturday night, when he caught a pitch that hit him in the ribs — trapping it between his arm and his ribcage — and then casually tossed it back to the pitcher, Layne Bruner.

The call from the overly enthusiastic Pac-12 Network announcer is almost as entertaining as the sequence itself.

“Eww! Did he catch it? Yeah! Wooooo! Ha ha!,” he rejoiced before narrating the replay. “Check this out! What just happened? He caught it! And then he threw it back at him! This could be one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen on a baseball field. Do it Johnny! Ha ha ha ha!
