Man killed in Friday night motorcycle crash identified

The motorcyclist who died Friday night in a crash near Potosi Mountain was identified Saturday by Nevada Highway Patrol.

He was Dickie Chavez, 43, of Socorro, N.M., the Highway Patrol said Saturday.

A preliminary investigation indicated that about 7:30 p.m., Chavez was riding a maroon-and-white 2002 Yamaha Classic east on state Route 160, near Mountain Springs, when the motorcycle left the travel lane and drifted through a paved shoulder, the patrol said.

Chavez was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

This was the 20th fatal crash in Highway Patrol-Southern Command’s jurisdiction this year. It was the fourth fatal crash involving a motorcycle.
