Climber dead after fall at Zion National Park

A climber fell to his death Wednesday while climbing a popular route at Zion National Park, according to a release from the National Park Service.

Two people in the area saw the climber fall and called park rangers. The climber’s body was found at the base of the 1,200-foot-tall “Moonlight Buttress” route on the west side of the canyon, in Utah about 160 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the fall is currently under investigation, and park rangers are working with the Washington County Medical Examiner’s office to identify the climber and notify next of kin.
