Chefs’ holiday party collects toys for kids

Main Street Station’s Pullman Grill decorated in its holiday finery lent a nostalgic ambiance to the American Culinary Federation of Las Vegas’ annual holiday reception and dinner the evening of Dec. 16.

Arriving guests were greeted by Chef of the Year 2014 George Bailey of the South Point.

The chefs and their guests were asked to bring an unwrapped gift for the Chefs for Kids Christmas toy drive.

The chefs and Susan Lednicky of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, chairwoman of Chefs for Kids, sponsored the annual Christmas Eve breakfast at Shade Tree shelter.

The chefs arrived early to prepare a deluxe hot breakfast as a surprise for all the women and children, and Santa distributed the gifts received at the holiday party.

American Culinary Federation of Las Vegas President Phillip Pinkney spoke about efforts to improve the chapter and embark on greater community involvement, and he introduced board members and dignitaries.

Main Street’s executive chef Ben Gries and sous chef Michael Bickford were introduced. The chefs and their staffs prepared a buffet of appetizers followed by a selection of salads, entrees with side dishes and assorted desserts.

A drawing for six packages ended the evening.
