7-year-old girl hit by truck in North Las Vegas dies

A 7-year-old girl, the great-niece of Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow, died Wednesday after being struck by a car last week.

The girl and her 43-year-old uncle — not Barlow — were in a crosswalk on Commerce Street near Kraft Avenue on July 11 when she was hit by a Ford truck just before 9 p.m.

She was taken to University Medical Center in what North Las Vegas police called extremely critical condition.

The truck driver was not injured and remained on the scene. As of Wednesday, he had not been charged.

On Wednesday, during a City Council meeting, Barlow got up and left abruptly. His assistant, Joe Mitchell, confirmed that Barlow left because he received news of the girl’s death.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release her name and cause and manner of death.

This is the 4th traffic fatality in the North Las Vegas for 2014.
