Park picked for final Nevada 150 medallion

CARSON CITY — Great Basin National Park won out in a contest Wednesday to become the fourth and final medallion issued by Nevada in honor of its 150th birthday on Oct. 31.

About 5,000 Nevadans voted on their favorite design for the final sesquicentennial medallion.

Gov. Brian Sandoval, with other officials, participated in the pressing of the first medallion at an event at the Nevada State Museum, a former U.S. Mint.

Orders for the final commemorative medallion marking Nevada’s sesquicentennial began Wednesday through the Nevada Legislative Gift Shop. The silver medallion is available to the public for $100.50. Each 1-ounce collector’s medallion is made from Nevada silver from the Coeur Mine in Rochester and stamped on the historic Coin Press No. 1 at the Nevada State Museum.

A copper version of the medallion is available for $15.

Orders can be made by visiting nevadalegislature.com and clicking on “New items” under the gift shop button, or in person at 401 S. Carson St. in Carson City.

Sales of the commemorative medallions help fund the yearlong Nevada 150 celebration. For more information about Nevada 150, visit nevada150.org.
