Five bodies found in house near Provo

SPRINGVILLE, Utah — Five members of a family were found dead Saturday night in a home near Provo, authorities said.

Springville police spokesman Lt. Dave Caron said that the cause of the deaths wasn’t immediately apparent, but police don’t believe that there is any danger to the community.

Authorities said that the bodies are those of a couple and their three children.

Caron said that the bodies were found about 8 p.m. MDT.

The Salt Lake Tribune said that the home was a duplex and that residents on the other half of the building were unharmed.

The Tribune reported that the parents were ages 36 and 37. Two boys were ages 14 and 11 and a girl was 12.

Police told the paper that firefighters tested the air and did not find any carbon monoxide, but added that the gas could have ventilated before the test.

Caron said a medical examiner will determine what killed the family.

“Right now there’s no known cause of death,” the paper quoted Caron as saying at a 9:45 p.m. press conference in front of the duplex. “There’s nothing obvious.”

He said that a relative spoke to family on Saturday morning and when that person went to the house Saturday night, the family was dead.

Police spokesman didn’t immediately return a call for further details.

Springville is just south of Provo.
