Cyclist celebrates ‘win’ one lap early, loses race

A cyclist that was riding in stage seven of the Tour of California over the weekend thought he had won the stage and celebrated as he crossed the finishline…one lap too early.

According to Fox Sports, the announcers and fans tried to signal the cyclist, Eloy Teruel, to keep going.

By the time Teruel realized he still had one lap to go, the group of other cyclists were closing in on him quickly. Slovakia’s Peter Sagan ended up winning the stage.
