In Case You Missed It: Curious crab steals camera

Crabs from a distance are kind of creepy looking.

Get up close and personal to one and you’ve reached SyFy channel status.

It is horrifying. But they are also incredible creatures.

Wanting a closer look himself, Diederick Ryan, hanging out at a resort in Fiji, set up his GoPro camera outside a crab hole.

“I used the new GoPro app and wifi to sit and wait for the crab to appear and hit record from the building in the background,” Ryan wrote on YouTube. “It all looked great until he disappeared with the camera down his hole.”

The curious crustacean spotted the unfamiliar device and was anything but intimidated. He scurried over, gave it a quick examination then suddenly dragged it down his hole, much to Ryan’s dismay (you can hear him yelling in the background).

“He tried to drag it down further as I went to grab it, almost taking it too far out of reach,” Ryan wrote, “but luckily I got it just in time.”

Crazy crabs. I’m surprised he didn’t try to trade the camera for a finger or two.
