One of two inmates who left Reno work crew captured

One of two prison inmates who escaped from a work assignment on Wednesday in Reno, has been apprehended, according to the the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Dustin Cottiero, of Washoe County, was captured Friday due to a multi-law enforcement agency effort. He is being booked into the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Cottiero and inmate Corey Comez walked away from their job with the Nevada Division of Forestry at about 2:oo p.m. on Wednesday. They had been working with a crew near Interstate 80 and McCarran Boulevard, officials said.

Cottiero was serving one to two years for attempted burglary and Gomez was serving three to eight years for burglary and resisting a public officer with a weapon. Both inmates were serving their sentences at Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City.

Gomez remains at large.
