Fire causes evacuation of apartment complex

Firefighters battled an apartment fire Wednesday morning that required 11 fire units and prompted a building evacuation.

Clark County and Las Vegas firefighters responded to 1372 Serape Circle, near Maryland Parkway and Desert Inn Road, about 7:20 a.m.

Upon arrival, they found a two-story apartment with heavy smoke and fire in a second-floor unit, one of four in the building.

The building was evacuated and there were no injuries reported. Firefighters had the fire under control by 7:30 a.m. but declared the apartment uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $75,000.
