Woman dies in Kingman fire; swamp cooler blamed

A faulty swamp cooler was blamed for a fatal fire Friday in north Kingman, Ariz.

Authorities responded at 3:30 a.m. to a report of an occupant trapped in a burning home in the 2300 block of E. Calle Alamo.

Pat Moore, chief of the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District, said the double-wide mobile home was fully engulfed in flames as personnel arrived on the scene.

The remains of Kimberly A. Sherwood, 57, were found near the rear door of the home.

Moore said Sherwood’s boyfriend and two grandchildren exited the home, though the boyfriend suffered burns. He tried to help Sherwood escape but was unable to do so, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident remained under investigation.
