Redmond to step down from Allegiant Travel Co. board

John Redmond, former CEO of the MGM Grand, will step down from the Allegiant Travel Co. board of directors effective Sunday.

According to an Allegiant announcement, Redmond no longer has enough time for the board work after starting in January as the managing director and CEO of Echo Entertainment Group Ltd., the Australian resort and gaming company.

Redmond had executive experience not only at MGM but Caesars Palace and the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and Allegiant Chairman and CEO Maurice Gallagher Jr. credited him with the effort to boost nonflight sales, particularly hotel packages. Redmond joined the Allegiant board in October 2007 after leaving MGM.

Echo is partly owned by Singapore’s Genting, which has proposed a new Strip resort on the unfinished site of Echelon. Earlier this week, Echo announced a $1 billion expansion of its Star resort in Sydney, Australia.
