Man in custody after standoff at apartment near Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas police have taken a man into custody following a standoff situation at an apartment complex near the Strip.
Just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call about someone possibly armed with a knife at an apartment complex in the 100 block of West New York Avenue, near West Wyoming Avenue and South Commerce Street, Metro spokesman Officer Michael Rodriguez said.
When police arrived, the person refused to come out of the residence, he said.
Around 10 a.m., a woman left the apartment with “minor, nonlife-threatening injuries,” Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said. She was transported to a hospital to receive treatment for her injuries, but she probably won’t be admitted, Meltzer said.
SWAT and negotiators were at the scene while the man refused to come out for hours, Meltzer said.
About 10:50 a.m., the man was taken into custody, Metro said.
“All streets in the area are expected to open shortly,” Metro said.
