Gunman killed by tribal police at Moapa travel plaza off I-15

A gunman who was shot and killed by tribal police officers at a travel plaza off Interstate 15 north of Las Vegas had been sought on several warrants and was wanted for questioning about shots fired on the Moapa River Indian Reservation, authorities said Monday.

Marcus S. Lee scuffled with two Moapa Tribal Police Department officers who tried using a stun gun before one of the officers shot Lee dead a little after 7 p.m. Sunday at the Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza, tribal Police Chief Kevin Moore said. The names of the officers were being withheld for 72 hours per department policy.

The Taser had no effect on Lee, 28, who had been sought after a report of gunshots fired Saturday on the reservation, Moore said. He then pointed a gun at officers and refused commands to drop his weapon before he was shot, Moore said.

FBI agent Patrick Turner said Lee also was named in several warrants for failure to appear in court. The FBI is investigating the case because it happened on the reservation.
