HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: At 9 a.m. Wednesday, bring a snack and a sketchbook for an easy-to-moderate, two-mile hike at Oak Creek that will include a 30-minute break to draw pictures of the great outdoors; for ages 12 and older. At 9 a.m. Dec. 30, join a geologist for a moderately strenuous, 2½-mile hike to the Red Spring Thrust Fault; for ages 10 and older.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. Red Rock Canyon: At 11 a.m. Tuesday, view the types of venomous animals found in Red Rock in a tabletop presentation at the visitor center. Living and preserved specimens will be on display, and discussion and questions are encouraged. At 8:30 a.m. Friday, join a crew to help clean up trash along a trail.
