Man found dead inside houseboat near Lake Mead

The National Park Service and the Clark County coroner's office are investigating the death of an adult male found decaying in a houseboat in the Boulder Basin area of Lake Mead, a park service spokesman said Friday.

Park rangers discovered the body after a lake visitor reported a foul smell coming from the boat, which was sitting on a trailer on a gravel road less than a half mile from the water. Rangers found a man slumped over inside the boat.

Park service spokesman Randy Lavasseur said it is not known how long the body has been decomposing. Investigators are trying to determine whether the dead man was the registered owner of the boat or a truck found parked nearby.
