DASH & SPLASH SET FOR SATURDAY AT PAVILION CENTER POOL
Dash & Splash is planned for 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive.
The event will begin with a 1.5-mile run through Veterans Memorial Park, followed by a 300-meter swim in the pool. There is no age limit, but participants must be able to swim 100 meters successfully. The cost is $15 with preregistration and $20 on event day. For more information, call 229-1488.

The group is also in need of foster parents for temporary housing of dogs and cats left behind by their owners.

JEWISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY TO MEET SUNDAY AT SAHARA WEST LIBRARY
The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada plans to host its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.
The guest speaker will be Joanne D. Gilbert, talking about Women of Valor: Female Resisters to the Third Reich.
There is no charge to attend, and meetings are open to the public. The group meets at 1 p.m. the third Sunday of each month.

SEMINAR FOR NEW PARENTS PLANNED AUG. 23 AT MOUNTAINVIEW HOSPITAL
A seminar, What To Expect When You Are Done Expecting, is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 at MountainView Hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way.
The class will provide information for all parents in knowing how to care for a newborn, as well as caring for the mother after delivery, or the fourth trimester. Participants will benefit by bringing a baby doll or stuffed animal that approximates the size of a newborn.

The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer bunco tournament is scheduled for 5 p.m. Aug. 24 at 2716 N. Tenaya Way.

ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY PLANS STAR PARTY AUG. 25
The Las Vegas Astronomical Society plans to have member telescopes available for night sky viewing from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Visitor Center at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive. Bring your own telescopes or binoculars if you have them, as well as chairs for comfort and snacks. Dress for the weather. The program will be held in and around the Visitor Center. Participants must arrive by 8 p.m., as the gates will be locked at this time.

H2U MOUNTAINVIEW TO HOST FULL-DAY HEART MURMUR CLINIC
A full-day heart murmur clinic is planned from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 25 at the H2U MountainView Office, 3150 N. Tenaya Way, Suite 140.
The free program is a collaborative approach to finding and treating undiagnosed valvular disease with the goal of educating patients about their risk and advising them how to work with primary care physicians to ensure appropriate screening, as well as with cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons to facilitate the best possible treatment plan. Attendees should wear comfortable and loose clothing for the screening portion, where the Nurse Navigator will listen to your heart.

TRAVEL CLUB TO MEET AT THE TAP HOUSE
The Las Vegas Single Social Travel Club invites prospective members to its meetings, which are scheduled the fourth Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is set for Aug. 28 at The Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd.
The meet-and-greet portion is set to start at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room, and the formal meeting is set for 7 p.m.
Discussions focus on traveling from day trips, local events, in-state and out-of-state traveling, cruises and international traveling. A guest speaker is frequently featured. The meeting closes about 8 p.m. when appetizers are served and the group mingles.

BLOOD DONORS TO GET FREE TICKETS
United Blood Services of Las Vegas is offering two free to tickets to "The Mentalist" to donors throughout August.
Donors supplying blood or plasma are eligible to receive the free entertainment vouchers. "The Mentalist" plays Tuesdays and Thursdays at the V Theater inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort, 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
Currently, UBS has a critical need for type O negative blood, which is the universal donor and can be given to all other blood types.

The city's Economic and Urban Development Department plans to host 90-minute seminars through September. Check-in will begin at 7:45 a.m. for each seminar at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St.
Learn about business taxes, licenses and permits, labor and employment laws, trademarks, small claims court, and trust and estate planning. The seminars are sponsored by the city of Las Vegas and attorneys from the law firm of Lionel Sawyer & Collins.
Aug. 21's topic is set to be small claims court, and Sept. 5's topic to be trust and estate planning.
