Locos’ Jim Fassel makes good use of Findlay RV
Jim Fassel, president/general manager/head football coach for the Las Vegas Locomotives, loves the outdoors. When not entrenched in his duties with the team and the United Football League, Fassel sees the country in a 42-foot 2010 Fleetwood Discovery Diesel Class A motor home purchased from Findlay RV, 4530 Boulder Highway.
The former head coach for the New York Giants from 1997-2003 who helped guide the team to the Super Bowl in 2001, Fassel is one of Findlay RV's prized customers.
"When I first moved here, I talked to several people, including Findlay RV sales consultant Rose Maguire, and everyone told me that when purchasing a motor home, you have to use it for more than annual vacations," Fassel said.
The native of Anaheim, Calif., who moved to Las Vegas about two years ago to join the Locos, now makes good use of his motor home.
"There is no sense in buying one and just letting it sit. We go all over, including Flaming Gorge in Wyoming and Utah; Denver, Colo.; Lake Pleasant in Arizona; and we're going to spend a week in Huntington Beach."
Fassel purchased the motor home in February after speaking with Maguire on the Findlay RV lot on a Sunday afternoon. The father of five children (four boys and a girl) and grandfather to seven, with another grandchild due soon, Fassel finds the Discovery perfect for family gatherings.
"It really is a great way to get the family together. When we went to Flaming Gorge, we reserved a spot for the motor home, and right behind it we had a tent reserved along with two cabins. We weren't 15 to 20 yards apart. My kids really enjoy the outdoors and we have definitely gotten our money's worth."
Yet another idea Fassel is entertaining is to bring the Discovery to Sam Boyd Stadium on Boulder Highway for Locos' games that will begin in mid-September.
Fassel said he was intimidated by the potential purchase of a motor home until meeting with Maguire, who has been selling motor homes for about 18 years. Maguire helped relieve those concerns when the two talked about the industry.
"Rose could answer questions and I felt confident with those answers," said Fassel, who also served as the offensive coordinator at Stanford from 1979-1985 and head coach at the University of Utah from 1985-1991. "I felt comfortable with her. The pricing was right and it was exactly what I wanted. I had been talking about this for 10 years and finally made the decision to buy the Discovery.
"Rose knows the RV business and there was no pressure at all. She didn't abandon me after the sale. The service has been excellent, too. I'm 100 percent satisfied."
Before making his purchase, Fassel test drove 15 to 20 motor homes .
"I test drove this one three times. I thought it drove well and it was very comfortable. Everybody has asked me about the motor home and wants to see it."
Maguire is considered a key component of Findlay RV's team, primarily because she is a true believer in the industry.
"Life is too short and an RV is the best way for people to enjoy themselves," she said. "Treat people the way you want to be treated. If I'm not treated well where I shop, I will go elsewhere, too. When someone purchases a motor home, it needs to be a good experience."
Findlay RV is part of the Findlay Automotive Group. The dealership is headed by Reuben Figueroa.
Findlay Automotive Group was founded in 1951 by the late Pete Findlay, whose son, Cliff Findlay, now oversees 25 dealerships in Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Idaho.
