Man arrested on allegations he used ads to find victims

RENO - A 31-year-old man has been arrested after Reno police say he pretended to be a woman in Craigslist personal ads and sexually assaulted people he met through the site.

Police said David Schmitt was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of sexual assault and coercion.

Authorities said Schmitt pretended to be a woman seeking other women on Internet personal ads. Police said that after the women contacted Schmitt and gave him personal information, he wouldd set up meetings and blackmail them into engaging in sex acts with him.

Authorities also said Schmitt researched his alleged victims on Facebook and other sites.

Reno officials said there may be more victims who haven't come forward.
