Motorcyclist dies in crash that closed northbound U.S. 93

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- Northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 93, the main highway from northwest Arizona to Las Vegas, were closed for more than four hours late Friday and early Saturday as authorities handled a fatal traffic accident involving three motorcycles about 15 miles south of the Nevada state line.

Northbound traffic was rerouted outside Kingman, Ariz., onto State Route 68 to Laughlin and into Boulder City before Highway 93 reopened at 12:16 a.m.

A 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Robert A. Fairchild, 26, of New River, Ariz., left the highway and struck the end of a guardrail, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Fairchild was ejected back onto the highway and struck by two other motorcycles, authorities said. Fairchild died at the scene.

Another motorcyclist, Patrick Dupoux, 31, of Glendale, Ariz., was transported to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of his injuries. The third motorcyclist wasn't injured.

All three motorcyclists were wearing helmets, authorities said. The accident remains under investigation.
