Lake Tahoe Basin endorses concept of more local control

Land use and environmental regulators in the Lake Tahoe Basin are endorsing the idea of giving local governments more control over permitting and other rules.

A new law passed by legislators and signed by Gov. Brian Sandoval calls for Nevada's possible withdrawal from a longstanding compact unless the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency updates a regional plan and changes how building projects are approved.

The agency's governing board has endorsed the concept of allowing local governments to take over more duties, and adopted an updated code book intended to simplify Tahoe Basin regulations.
