UMC offering free breast cancer screenings Thursday

University Medical Center will offer free breast cancer screenings from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Each screening will consist of a clinical breast examination and does not include a mammogram. Appointments will be on a walk-in basis.

Women should have a clinical breast examination at least every three years between the ages of 20 and 39 and every year starting at 40, UMC said in a statement. The American Cancer Society recommends an annual mammogram at 40 years old.

The screenings will be held at the UMC Cast Clinic, 1000 Shadow Lane.
