One dead, 13 injured in Kingman accident involving car, school bus

A 27-year-old woman was killed when the convertible she was driving slammed into the rear of a school bus in Golden Valley, Ariz., on Tuesday.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said Bridget Bruce of Golden Valley died in the 7:14 a.m. accident.

A 5-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Chevrolet Cavalier was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon at Kingman Regional Medical Center.

Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said the bus had been stopped at Teddy Roosevelt Road and was turning onto Arizona Route 68 when it was struck by the car, which then went under the bus.

None of the 25 Kingman High School students aboard the bus, nor its driver, were seriously injured.

Six ambulances responded to the accident scene.

"Everybody was still in quite a bit of shock," Golden Valley Fire Chief Thomas O'Donohue said. "The students were, for the most part, still on the bus because that's their protocol, to keep students on the bus."

Hospital spokeswoman Jamie Taylor said 11 students and the bus driver were released from the hospital following treatment for relatively minor injuries.

Kingman Unified School District Superintendent Roger Jacks said grief counselors have been made available should any students require their service.
