HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Thursday, a moderate 3-mile hike at Calico Hills. On April 24, a moderate to strenuous 6-mile hike at Sandstone Canyon. Also April 24, an easy 3-mile springs hike to see wildflowers (515-5367).

Around The Bend Friends: This group of people older than 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www. aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a scavenger hunt in the Discovery Plaza exhibit area will be offered by the visitor center. No signups required. On Friday, a table-top presentation about the environment will be offered. On Saturday, a program for children ages 2-10 about the motions of animals will be presented. On April 24, a table-top presentation on reptiles and arachnids in Red Rock will be offered (515-5367).

Valley of Fire: On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to noon, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m., a program will explore big screen dinosaur inconsistencies, at the visitor center (397-2088).

Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve: On Friday and Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's Birding Celebration will take place at the preserve, 350 Galleria Drive. Events will include workshops on birding basics, migration and attracting hummingbirds. There also will be educational displays, walks and Bird Mobile tours (267-4180 or cityofhenderson.com).

Archaeo-Nevada Society, along with the Bureau of Land Management, seeks volunteers to help with conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
