Spotify support now on Facebook Messenger

Facebook has made it easier to share music while chatting by adding Spotify support directly to its Messenger app. Users can now share individual songs through the “more” tab within Messenger.

Anyone receiving a shared song or playlist simply needs to click on the shared link, which will automatically open the Spotify app and begin playback — provided that she has installed the app, of course. The new feature is available both on iOS and Android to users worldwide, according to a Facebook spokesperson.

Facebook has been adding plenty of new functionality to Messenger over the last couple of months, including the ability to share Gifs and stickers as well as an integration with the ride hailing app Uber.

This is part of Facebook’s strategy to turn Messenger into a utility product that could one day replace search, and help the company to more effectively compete with Google. Earlier this year, Facebook revealed that Messenger now has more than 800 million monthly active users.
