Judge adds more years to rapist’s long prison term

A Las Vegas man convicted of sexually assaulting two Las Vegas prostitutes eight years ago was sentenced to dozens of years to life in prison Tuesday.

Steven Newberg already is serving a sentence of 33 years to life at High Desert State Prison for sexually assaulting a teenage cousin. He was convicted in that case in 2003.

Added to the sentence Judge Michelle Leavitt handed down Tuesday, Newberg will serve a term of more than 80 years to life in prison.

Newberg, 45, in April was convicted of eight felonies, including multiple counts of first-degree kidnapping and sexual assault. The trial featured graphic video footage of Newberg sexually assaulting the prostitutes and testimony from one of the victims. The videos, which Newberg took himself, showed the women with their hands tied behind their backs.

Both victims told authorities Newberg had a weapon and forced them to perform sex acts.
