Lopez keeps WBO title with TKO over Marquez

Juan Manuel Lopez retained his WBO featherweight title with an eighth-round technical knockout victory over Rafael Marquez at the MGM Grand Garden tonight after Marquez refused to come out for the ninth round.

Lopez, 30-0, had Marquez in trouble at several junctures during the fight and was dominating with flurries of punches. Marquez, who fell to 39-6, had Lopez in trouble a couple of times, most notably in the fourth round when he nearly knocked Lopez down. But Lopez survived the round and with Marquez behind heading into the final quarter of the fight, he elected not to continue.
