Maloof faces DUI, other charges

Palms owner George Maloof was charged Tuesday with five misdemeanors related to a drunken driving arrest Oct. 9, according to the Clark County district attorney's office.

Maloof was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence, driving without a valid license, no proof of insurance, failing to properly make a left turn and speeding.

His arrest report says Maloof was driving 72 mph in a 45 mph zone and lost control of his vehicle on a turn.

Maloof, 46, recently said his biggest regret is "that I always have a driver. I feel horrible. I wish I had listened to my assistant."

He said he had just attended a wedding at The Mirage, and his assistant offered to drive.

"Four beers, man. I didn't think I was anywhere near intoxicated," he said.

He was pulled over while driving into Spanish Trail, where he lives. His blood-alcohol level registered 0.08 percent and he was arrested at 11:36 p.m.

He was held overnight at the Clark County jail and freed after eight hours.

Maloof has a court date scheduled for Jan. 10.
