Hilton denies owning cocaine

After her arrest by Las Vegas police, Paris Hilton claimed it wasn't her purse or her cocaine.

Hilton told police the purse belonged to an unidentified friend, according to a police report released Monday.

But Hilton claimed ownership of $1,300 in cash, credit cards, Zig-Zag rolling papers and a prescription pill found in the purse.

Hilton, 29, was arrested Friday night on one felony count of cocaine possession. She was freed without bail before dawn Saturday after spending less than three hours handcuffed on a jailhouse booking room bench. She is scheduled to appear before a Las Vegas justice of the peace Oct. 27.

She opened her handbag to pull out some lip balm and the bag of cocaine fell out into the officer's hand, according to the arrest report written by Lt. Dennis Flynn. The bag contained 0.8 grams of cocaine, police said.

Hilton's latest arrest came when her boyfriend, nightclub mogul Cy Waits, was stopped by a motorcycle officer who said he smelled marijuana coming from Waits' 2009 Cadillac Escalade on the Strip near Wynn Las Vegas.

Hilton was a passenger in the vehicle. Flynn said Hilton told him she was "extremely embarrassed, due to all the people taking pictures of her," and asked to go inside the Wynn resort to use a bathroom. The officer estimated the crowd at about 100 people.

Flynn said he discovered the cocaine after escorting Hilton into the Wynn security holding room. Hilton and the officer were waiting for a female officer to arrive to take the hotel heiress to a rest room.

"Hilton needed to put some lip balm on, and I handed her the purse from the table. As she began to open it, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggy begin to fall from the purse and into my hand," according to Flynn's arrest report. "She said she had not seen it but now thought it was gum."

Police also found a broken tablet of Albuterol, a prescription asthma drug. Hilton said the pill was hers and she had a prescription for it, the report stated.

Waits, 34, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He spent the night in jail before he was released on $2,000 bail with a Nov. 29 court date.

What does a Federal Reserve rate cut mean for your finances?

The federal funds rate is the rate at which banks borrow and lend to one another. While the rates consumers pay to borrow money aren’t directly linked to this rate, shifts affect what you pay for credit cards, auto loans, mortgages, and other financial products.
